Red Hill Farms Swine Information

-                    Our philosophy is to manage purebred hogs in a commercial setting.

-              All hogs are fed well-fortified corn/soybean meal/premix rations.  No Paylean used.

-              The Red Hill herd is pseudorabies and brucellosis qualified free in the state of TN.  This herd is free of PRRS and should meet the health requirements for shipment anywhere in the world.  The sows are vaccinated for parvo, lepto and erysipelas.  The pigs are vaccinated for erysipelas.  This herd has never had TGE.

-              We believe in linebreeding to improve genetic consistency and predictability.

-              We value the reputation and integrity that we have continued to develop and maintain for over 30 years.  As a result, many hogs are sold sight unseen to customers who have gained trust in our selection of breeding stock for them.

-              The Red Hill Farms breeding and selection program has been and continues to be focused on the profitability and success of our customers.

2002 NBS PROGENY TEST RESULTS:

One of our herdsires, JJ0 Five Dane 22-1, was declared a 2002 NBS Super Sire.  22-1's progeny group of 8 pigs was the leanest of the 47 sires of all breeds and hybrids in the test.  The BF average for the 22-1 progeny group was 0.68 (0.35" leaner than the average for all groups on the test.)  Our progeny group was also the heaviest muscled of the Duroc group.

Success of our customers:

-               The accomplishment for which we are most pleased is the success of commercial producers using our breeding stock.  Some farms have been continuous customers for over 30 years.

-               Record of 3 turns per year from large (1000 head) finishing barns.  (60-260 pounds)

-               Rapid close-outs of finishing barns with only minimal sort loss.

-               Low sow culling rates (25-30%)

-               Consistently high farrowing rates

-               Packer demanded carcass quality has resulted in marketing agreements for some customers

-            Consistently desirable carcass cutability (53-55% lean)
