BUFFALO
CREEK KEYSTONE 6033 1A 100% # 729254 Tattoo: GSC 6033 Calved: 2/27/00
“Keystone was one
of our top bulls in 2000-01 at both weaning and yearling.
His sire, Cornerstone, was in our high gaining group of bulls in
1998-99. His dam, Pinemarie
5151, is a highly maternal and fertile Chiefly Gold daughter, and out of
Pinemarie 2596, now in ET. Like
his sire, Keystone is not at the top of any trait, but he covers them
all well.” (Excerpt from Buffalo Creek Fall 2004 Sale Catalog) As we pondered over our first breeding season, we called Jack Chase and told him we were interested in a bull to continue building the kind of cowherd Mr. Caldwell had established. We told Jack we were particularly interested in calving ease, fertility, udder quality, fleshing ability, and calm disposition in a moderate framed package. Jack recommended Keystone - a sound structured,, problem-free bull with an amazingly quiet disposition. We thank Jack and Gini for sending Keystone east sight unseen. Keystone's first calf crop, weaned in the fall of 2004, showed superior growth, balance, and uniformity. 6033's bulls were well accepted by our commercial customers. Our first Keystone daughters calved during the spring of 2006. We are pleased with Keystone daughters - they cycle early and breed early in the season. Keystone daughters are big volumed, easy fleshing, sound structured females that appear to be maturing as moderate framed cows. Keystone ranks in the top 2% of the breed for Maintenance Energy requirement (ME). Owned with Buffalo Creek Red Angus, Leiter, Wyoming. SEMEN AVAILABLE.
BECKTON
LANCER M361 TD 1A 100% # 855234 Tattoo: WF M361 Calved: 3/19/02
M361 was our pick
in Beckton’s 2003 Spring Bull Sale.
Sired by the breed’s leading carcass sire and out of a top cow
that Beckton flushed at a young age puts a unique combination of traits
in M361. M361’s dam, as a
8-year old cow maintains moderate size (1065 lbs.) with a ME EPD of -9,
while posting an impressive AVG BW of 74, WW Ratio of 111, and YW Ratio
of 108. M361 exhibited excellent carcass traits as he scanned 4.0% IMF (106 ratio) and a 14.9 REA (117 Ratio). M361 and his flush brothers were the only bulls in the 2003 Beckton Sale to have EPDs greater than 0.2 for both Marbling and REA. More impressive is his phenotype. M361 has unparalleled structural soundness, is an excellent breeder, and he is an extremely easy fleshing bull in a very moderate package. M361 is a great calving ease bull, ranking in the top 3% of the breed for CED. He portrays the results of the Beckton philosophy that selecting for low birth weight results in smaller mature size. M361 consistently moderates frame size while adding muscle, body volume, and fleshing ability. M361 ranks in the top 1% of the breed for Maintenance Energy requirement. His first daughters have excellent udder quality and are becoming some of our top cows. Look for the 52T and 62T bulls in our Spring 2008 sale our of M361 daughters. 62T is the highest performing bull ever raised here at Red Hill Farms. His dam, 25P, is a M361 daughter with WW Ratio of 121 and MPPA of 112. Owned with Darrell Doss, Lafayette, TN. SEMEN AVAILABLE.
1BWJ JULIAN 17P 1A 100% # 990784 Tattoo: 1BWJ 17P Calved: 2/2/2004
17P is a dominating sire here at Red Hill Farms. The top performing bull calf in our Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 crops are both 17P sons (101S and 62T - both selling March 15, 2008). 17P's EPDs have improved with the last two National Cattle Evaluations. Even more impressive than 17P's ability to sire outstanding performance, is the consistency in which he sires moderate framed, thick, easy-fleshing cattle. 17P’s dam, Shady’s MS Marias 283, is one of the best cows in our herd. In addition to being a very fertile female, 283 is the largest volume, heaviest muscled, and most structurally correct of our coming 6-year olds. A strong attribute of 283 is her ability to thrive on typical fescue pastures—it certainly appears she may have some genetic resistance to the fescue endophyte. Many thanks to the Gerkins for their confidence in our program with the purchase of 17P. We continue to use 17P and his sons here at Red Hill Farms. Owned with Gerkin Farms, Orleans, IN. SEMEN AVAILABLE.
