Red Hill Farms Donor Females

Excitement abounds as new ET calves are born from the donors below.  We have 2006 and 2007 calves out of these donors.  Service sires for the ET program include: BUF CRK Cherokee Canyon 4912, BKT Lancer F442, BKT Julian B571, BUF CRK Romeo L081, and Brown Vacation.  As shown below, these donors concentrate outstanding performance data.  In addition, the females are unique in their phenotype, being big-bodied, moderate framed, easy fleshing females.

Beckton Lana M127 was the top selling heifer in the 2003 Beckton sale. M127 was an ET heifer from a dam with progeny ratios of 121 WW and 117 YW. Two flush brothers (Lots 1 and 36) were the two top selling bulls in the sale going to Dr. John Montgomery, Mont-Vue Farm in TN and to Lillian Yontz, Thistle Farms in Ohio. Three other outstanding bulls in the sale were flush brothers of M127. A featured Beckton herdsire, Beckton Cruiser K118, is out of the dam of M127. The dam of the Lot 2 bull in the 2005 Beckton sale was Beckton Lana M588, a flush mate to M127. The Lot 2 bull had weaning and yearling ratios of 109 and 114 and was a frame score 5 bull that sold for $8500 to Brian Heinze in Oregon. M127 typifies the Beckton program for low birth weight, excellent growth, and moderate mature size.  This kind of early growth coupled with reaching mature size at a younger age represents a major goal of our breeding program.  If heifers have attained close to their mature frame size as 2-year olds, there is a greater likelihood of getting them rebred on a timely basis.  This was the kind of growth pattern of M127.  M127 is one of the easiest fleshing cows in our herd, along with an excellent udder and near perfect feet and leg structure.  Her ET bull calf, 1S, sired by Romeo is one of the outstanding bulls in our 2007 offering.  2 ET sisters to 1S calved in the Fall of 2006, and they show the same kind of growth pattern as their dam.

M554 was one of our selections from the 2003 Beckton sale. M554 has adapted well to our KY/TN conditions, particularly showing a short, thin hair coat and having the ability to thrive and do well on fescue pastures during warm weather. M554 is a moderate framed, easy fleshing cow with an excellent udder. The footnote in the Beckton sale catalog stated, “Barmaid M554 is a beautiful heifer with beautiful EPDs out of a dam with beautiful production averages.”  M554 is another cow that we consider near ideal for frame size, growth pattern, and fleshing ability.  M554 has 3 Cherokee Canyon daughters that have calved with excellent udders.  One of M554's daughters, 73R (sired by Beckton Lancer M361), will sell in our Spring 2007 sale.  Additionally, M554 has September 2006 ET calves by Beckton Julian B571.

LCC Miniata NA543 is close to ideal for the phenotype we desire for Red Angus females. She is very moderate, structurally sound, big volumed and heavily muscled in addition to having near ideal udder structure. The footnote in the Leachman catalog for NA543 stated “Mated to lead the breed in carcass superiority, these outstanding females (NA543 and her flush sister) combine Cherokee with No Equal.” The dam, granddam, and great granddam were all still in production and sold in the Leachman Dispersal. We like this kind of longevity.

NA543 appears quite adaptable to the fescue pastures in our area. NA543 has a naturally short hair coat, and she seems to handle heat with ease.

NA543 was flushed as a heifer to Romeo and produced Red Hill Ranger 31R, our top selling bull in 2006 to Coyote Hills, KY.  We are using 31R extensively in our AI program.  NA543 was flushed to Beckton Julian B571 in the Spring of 2007.

LCC NA547 is an unusually unique cow. She has an excellent EPD profile along with a strong pedigree combination of Cherokee Canyon 4912, Make My Day and Heaven or Bust. The footnote in the Leachman catalog stated, “Welcome to the 21st Century. This exciting heifer combines two of the breeds top carcass sires and the foundation dam is a daughter of perpetual maternal and reproductive leader, Heaven or Bust.”

NA547 is a moderate framed female with excellent early growth, tremendous body volume, extra fleshing ability, impeccable structure, and a tremendous amount of muscling. We flushed NA547 to Beckton Lancer F442 as a heifer with excellent results - selling 4 bulls and 1 heifer out of the flush in our 2006 sale. Additionally, we flushed 2 daughters of NA547 in 2006.  NA547 was sold to Garry Graham, Pleasant Shade, TN in 2007.

NA422 and NA425 were lots 3 and 6 in the Leachman Dispersal. The footnote in the catalog read, “Carcass deluxe heifers sired by Cherokee Canyon and out of a powerful Gold Robber daughter. The dam, Nellie J1053 is a 109 WR, 116 YW slosher out of Nellie D1159, a top Monu 4X sired donor now in Brazil.” NA422 weaned twins as a 2-year old.  NA425 has an ET bull calf (32R) sired by Beckton Julian B571 that is now a Red Hill Farms Herd Sire.  NA422 and NA425 were successfully flushed in the fall of 2005 to Beckton Julian B571 and Brown Vacation respectively.

These Lancer F442, Cherokee Canyon, Make My Day 2-year olds represent a unique combination of stacked carcass genetics and calving ease along with a balanced EPD profile.  We had a tough decision deciding to sell possession and 1/2 embryo interest in one of these heifers in our 2006 sale.  5R was the top selling heifer in the sale going to Coyote Hills in KY at $5,100, and she was successfully flushed in the spring of 2006 to Brown Celebration P7050.  Her first embryo calves arrived in February 2007.

2R has already calved with a bull calf sire by our 13R bull.  Both these females are moderate framed, heavy muscled and very sound structured.  These heifers have excellent carcass EPDs, but they are probably even better than the EPDs indicate.  Since these were ET heifers, their outstanding ultrasound data was not used to influence their EPD values.  (5R: 3.62 % IMF and 14.2 REA)  Four outstanding flush brothers to these females sold in our 2006 sale.

46R was the natural calf from LCC Miniata NA543.  NA543 had been flushed as a heifer, but she also calved and did a great job as a 2-year old.  We sold possession and 1/2 embryo interest  in 46R to Coyote Hills for $3,500 in our 2006 sale.  An embryo son of NA543 sired by Romeo, Ranger 31R, was the top selling bull in our 2006 sale with 1/2 interest and possession selling to Coyote Hills  for $8,000.  We are using 31R heavily in our program.  46R is very representative of many of our breeding goals - moderate framed, easy fleshing, and tremendous body capacity along with excellent carcass data (4.81 % IMF and 11.9 REA).  This heifer has shown excellent early growth while maturing at a very reasonable size.  46R was flushed to Romeo as a heifer.
