MMF BO R1 was purchased from Rondal and Judy Dawson, Misty Meadows Farm, as our first Simmental herd sire.  We were impressed with the individual performance of R1 and the outstanding females in his pedigree.  R1 had an adjusted BW of 89(107), WW of 778(111) and a YW of 1353(105). R1 was the first calf from an outstanding 2-year old daughter of DS Six Shooter 3H, his grand dam (L108) is an excellent cow with consistent records, and his great-grand dam (A4) was a phenomenal producer, weaning 13 calves before leaving the herd at the age of 14.  The actual ultrasonic values for R1 at 1240 lbs were REA=16.9, %IMF= 3.5, and Fat=0.17.  The carcass EPDs do not reflect these values because the contemporaries were not ultrasounded at the same time.  MMF BO R1 represents an unusual combination of calving ease, growth, and carcass superiority along with fantastic maternal records.  His first calves were born in the Spring 2007.  R1 was entered in the ASA Carcass Merit Program with calves harvested in 2012.

R1 is homozygous black, homozygous polled and has NOT sired a calf with spotting when bred to a group of spotted cows.

R1 sired 4 steers in a group of 65 finished at a Tri County feedlot in Western Iowa. Iowa State Extension calculates Retail Value/Day on Test and Retail Value/Day of Age for all steers finished in this group of feedlots. Among the 65 steers in the pen, the 4 R1 steers ranked 1, 2, 3 and 4 for Retail Value/Day of age. The other steers were sired by Angus, Red Angus and Gelbvieh bulls. The data from these steers supports R1's growth and carcass values.

Red Coat was our pick of the bulls at the 2007 Gateway Bull Sale (MT).  Red Coat excels phenotypically being sound structured, thick, and balanced.  Red Coat posted impressive individual performance data, low birth weight (81 pounds), 112 WR, and 111 YR.  Red Coat's massive thickness was evidenced by his 16.02 REA (122 ratio).  In the Gateway Sale of 235 bulls, Red Coat had the 4th largest REA in the entire offering.

With Red Coat's unparalleled feedlot performance, he has been an ideal fit for mating to our Red Angus cows.  In addition to Red Coat's terminal traits, we have been equally impressed with the exceptional udder quality of his daughters.

Red Coat has completed the ASA Carcass Merit Program - - a great way to improve the accuracies of young, unproven bulls.

Red Coat has been sampled by several breeders.  "Our #1 WW bull calf for 2010 was a son (GW Red Coat 099TS) at almost 950 pounds.  We will be using him much more in 2011."  Terry Schlenker, Wilkinson Farms, North Dakota.

We first observed 701T as a yearling bull while attending the 2008 Gateway Simmental Bull Sale.  In addition to breed leading growth and carcass data, 701T was a moderate framed, wide-centered bull with excellent structure.  He was also an easy fleshing bull with a calm disposition.  After completing the ASA Carcass Merit Program, his EPDs are now even more superior.  A bonus is that 701T now ranks in the top 3% of the breed for BW and is truly a "calving ease" son of Predestined.  Among the 25 most widely used Simmental/SimAngus bulls in 2009, 701T had both the highest API and Ti of the 25 bulls. (The Register, March 2010)  We have used 701T in both our A.I. and E.T. programs, and he was used naturally for Fall breeding in 2009 and 2010.  701T's dam, 363L, is now owned by Red Hill Farms.  363L is a remarkably sound female with an excellent udder - small teats and excellent udder support at 10 years of age.  Click here to learn more about 701T's dam, 363L, and her progeny.  701T sons will be the highlight of our upcoming bull sale.

Thanks to Gateway Simmentals, MT, for allowing us the opportunity to use this great sire!  For semen on 701T, please contact Jim Butcher (406-350-0467).

645W was our choice of bulls at the 2010 Gateway Simmental Sale.  His sire, 701T, has impressed us since we saw him as a yearling.  645W is exceptional in his fleshing ability, center body width, and body volume.  645W is a unique combination of outstanding performance in a moderate-framed bull (5.5 YrFr).  645W comes from a cow family familiar to us at Red Hill Farms - his paternal granddam. 363, is a donor here and his maternal granddam, 717F, is also the dam of Red Hill Farms donor, GW Miss Lucky Roll 709L.  645W is triple-bred to the great 407D cow.

645W has large testicles, excellent semen, and he is a very aggressive breeder.

645W is entered in the ASA Carcass Merit Program with calves to be harvested in 2012.

We found 7350 at Dr. Warden's Ironwood Farms in the Spring of 2008.  7350 had an unusual combination of low birth weight (78 pounds, BWR 91) and above average growth (WW 658/103, YW 1240,102, ADG 4.76/114), along with the highest %IMF scan (7.80/156) and the highest REA (17.2/112) of the entire sale offering at Dr. Warden's.  7350 had a scrotal circumference of 41 cm.

7350's dam has a remarkable record -- 4 calves at 76 pounds/93, WW 5/108, YW 3/108, %IMF 3/149, REA 3/99.  In addition to purchasing 7350 as the top selling bull in the Warden's sale, we also purchased his dam who is now in production at Red Hill Farms.

7350 is sired by the ABS bull 4 Point 8 of Ironwood and his dam, 202, is a T510 x 036 x 6807 making her a double-bred 6807.  7350 has been used in the SimAngus program at Red Hill as well as sampled in several other herds.  He is a documented calving ease sire with tremendous carcass potential.

Wally impressed us with his exceptional performance ratios and the phenotype we desire.  Tom Hook described Wally as "one of the heaviest muscled and soundest structured with a quiet disposition, great appetite, and boasts herd changing carcass and index profile."  We have been impressed by  Shear Force's calving ease when used at Red Hill Farms.  Couple this with the high accuracy carcass genetics of Future Direction, and we are very excited to add Wally to the Red Simmental mix at Red Hill Farms.

106W is entered in the ASA Carcass Merit Program with calves to be harvested in 2012.

"Lot 7 (734Y) is a real complete bull out of a model Lucky Charm cow.  He has been a stick out since he was a calf and developed nicely.  Typical of the Premium Beef bulls as he is long-bodied, not tall, soft topped, and easy doing." Jim Butcher

734Y was selected from the 2012 Gateway Sale as an ideal bull to mate to our 701T daughters.  734Y posted outstanding individual ratios - - WWR 103, YWR 110, IMF ratio 122, and REA ratio 104.  Additionally, 734Y is moderate framed, easy fleshing and sound structured.
