17P is the most dominant sire we have used at Red Hill Farms. No Red Angus bull compares in the ability to moderate frame, spread the data from birth to yearling, add thickness, and combine all of this with breed leading CEM and STAY.  Even more impressive than 17P's ability to sire outstanding performance is the consistency with which he sires moderate framed, thick, easy-fleshing cattle.

17P's dam, Shady's MS Marias 283, was one of the best cows in our herd - 8 calves Avg BW 81 pounds, 6 calves WWR 110, 4 calves YWR 113. In addition to being a very fertile female, 283 was large-volumed, heavy-muscled, and one of the most structurally correct mature cows at Red Hill. A strong attribute of 283 was her ability to thrive on typical fescue pastures--it certainly appears she may have had some genetic resistance to the fescue endophyte.  283 and her 2011 calf were killed by lightning in June 2011.

17P's first daughters calved in the Spring of 2008.  His daughters have excellent udders and have posted above average weaning weight ratios.  His daughters are also smaller than average which documents his ability to produce more pounds from smaller cows.

Many thanks to the Gerkins for their confidence in our program with the purchase of 17P.  We continue to use 17P and his sons at Red Hill Farms and are thankful to the Gerkins for allowing us to bring 17P back to use naturally in our herd.  17P serviced our top cows for 2010 and 2011 calves.

Buffalo Creek Nice 'N Easy T189 was our pick of the bulls in the November, 2008 Buffalo Creek Sale. We purchased T189 with our cooperator herd, Coyote Hills. T189 is sired by BUF CRK Medallion N328, a bull whose progeny have adapted and performed exceptionally well in the Coyote Hills herd in Kentucky.  T189's dam is simply an outstanding Beckton Julian GG B571 daughter with an exceptional production record. Her progeny averages are 5/74, 4/105 and 4/102 for a  MPPA of 103.8.  Prior to the Buffalo Creek Sale, we were able to find P154 in one of the huge pastures at Buffalo Creek thriving on dry grass, and in respectable body condition for a young cow that had been so fertile and productive. She also had small teats and an apparent problem free udder.  Two years later when we attended the Buffalo Creek dispersal, we purchased P154.  We believe she was the best cow offered in the sale for the type of cattle we like.  T189's maternal granddam, 9005, had averages of 105 WR, 106 YR and a MPPA of 104.5 on 10 natural calves before going into the Buffalo Creek Transplant program. T189 puts together an unusually strong combination of convenience and cow efficiency traits on both sides of his pedigree.

T189 is also outstanding from a phenotypic standpoint. He is a very moderate framed, structurally correct bull with tremendous width of chest, spring of rib and body volume. Out in the pasture with a large group of cows here in KY, T189 exhibits excellent overall balance as he moves over the hills. We like the way that T189 has performed on fescue since coming to Kentucky, maintaining or gaining body condition while running with cows during the breeding season.

84S is an easy calving, low maintenance bull that has a perfect disposition and is very slick haired.  This bull is ideal for producing females suitable for the heat and humidity of the South. The data indicates his daughters will breed regularly, calve easily, and have longevity.  His first sons sold March 20, 2010 in our annual sale and were very well received.  Eight 84S sired bred heifers averaged $3,937 in the Buffalo Creek dispersal sale and the 84S sons in the December, 2011 Buffalo Creek sale averaged $1,000 more than any other sire group.  84S will continue to be a high-use sire at Red Hill Farms.

"One of B571's greatest sons, we bought 84S from Red Hill Farms in 2008 for $8,100. In February 2011, 25% interest of 84S sold to Ozark Hills Red Angus and Calvo Family Red Angus for $30,000.  This past December, the 13 sons in our sale averaged over $6,000.  84S is one of the premier, proven calving ease sires in the breed, with an excellent spread from birth to yearling.  Moderate in size, well muscled and extremely correct, with excellent feet, legs, and testicles, he has an exceptionally quiet disposition.  He epitomizes what the breed is about and is without doubt, a true herd builder." 149U combines two of our original Beckton cow families - Barmaid and Vernice.  149U's dam, 87S, has a beautiful udder and is our favorite Keystone daughter.  She has had 3 calves with an average birth weight of 69 pounds, WWR of 108, and YWR of 104.  The maternal granddam, M682, has been a consistent producer with four daughters working in our herd.  149U is a sound structured bull that should be a no-miss maternal sire.  He represents generations of low maintenance, highly fertile, problem-free cows.

101S has been a favorite since he posted his 118 WWR.  101S immediately put his dam at the top of our herd.  101S' dam (54P) and granddam (M554) have been two of our top producing cows.  Click here to learn more about these great cows!  With a no-creep feeding program, we struggle to get big weaning weights on fall calving cows, but 54P is an exception.

101S consistently sires balanced performance.  We have several outstanding young cows sired by 101S.

105U was our Lot 1 in 2010 selling to Bent Tree Farms (AL).  We appreciate Teddy studying our cattle and finding this bull.  105U was used at Red Hill and several daughters have been retained.  It appears 105U is very prepotent for moderating frame and improving fleshing ability.

Ripper's dam, N011, continues to amaze us as she is our smallest cow, weighing around 900 pounds each fall.  She always breeds early and calves at the beginning of the calving season.  Ripper is a valuable bull in our program as he is an outcross to all our Cherokee and Lancer cattle.  Ripper's daughters appear to possess his low maintenance and easy fleshing characteristics.  The Spring 2009 sale featured 2 of the best 13R sons to date - 2U and 28U.  They were our top selling bulls.  28U sold to Buffalo Creek Red Angus (WY), and 2U sold to Comerford Farms (GA).  Both 2U and 28U continue to be used at Red Hill.

28U is one of the top bulls ever produced at Red Hill Farms.  28U's dam does what we preach - - she has weaned four calves with a weaning  weight ratio of 108 and weighed 1,000 pounds last fall.  28U's paternal granddam, N011, has never weighed over 900 at weaning and has always bred back.  We believe in smaller, more efficient cows and this bull is the real deal.  28U is stacked for generations of low maintenance, efficient cattle.  28U sold in the February 2011 Buffalo Creek sale for $13,000.

"Keystone was one of our top bulls in 2000-01 at both weaning and yearling.  His sire, Cornerstone, was in our high gaining group of bulls in 1998-99.  His dam, Pinemarie 5151, is a highly maternal and fertile Chiefly Gold daughter, and out of Pinemarie 2596, now in ET.  Like his sire, Keystone is not at the top of any trait, but he covers them all well." (Excerpt from Buffalo Creek Fall 2004 Sale Catalog)

As we pondered over our first breeding season, we called Jack Chase and told him we were interested in a bull to continue building the kind of cowherd Mr. Caldwell had established.  We told Jack we were particularly interested in calving ease, fertility, udder quality, fleshing ability, and calm disposition in a moderate framed package.  Jack recommended Keystone - a sound structured,, problem-free bull with an amazingly quiet disposition.  We thank Jack and Gini for sending Keystone east sight unseen.

Keystone's first calf crop, weaned in the fall of 2004, showed superior growth, balance, and uniformity.  6033's bulls were well accepted by our commercial customers.  Our first Keystone daughters calved during the spring of 2006. We are pleased with Keystone daughters - they cycle early and breed early in the season.  The Keystone daughters are very fertile and problem free with perfect dispositions. Keystone daughters are big volumed, easy fleshing, sound structured females that mature as moderate framed cows.  Additionally, Keystone daughters consistently have ideal teat size and udder structure.

M361 was our pick in Beckton's 2003 Spring Bull Sale.  M361 is sired by one of the breed's leading carcass sires and out of a top cow that Beckton flushed at a young age.  M361's dam, as an 8-year old cow maintained moderate size (1065 lbs.) with a ME EPD of -8, while posting an impressive AVG BW of 74, WW Ratio of 111, and YW Ratio of 108.

M361 exhibited excellent carcass traits as he scanned 4.0% IMF (106 ratio) and a 14.9 REA (117 Ratio).  More impressive is his phenotype. M361 has unparalleled structural soundness, is an excellent breeder, and he is an extremely easy fleshing bull in a very moderate package.

M361 is a great calving ease bull, ranking in the top 10% of the breed for CED. He portrays the results of the Beckton philosophy that selecting for low birth weight results in smaller mature size. M361 consistently moderates frame size while adding muscle, body volume, and fleshing ability. His daughters have excellent udder quality and are some of our top cows.
