MMF BO R1 was purchased from Rondal and Judy Dawson, Misty Meadows Farm, as our first Simmental herd sire.  We were impressed with the individual performance of R1 and the outstanding females in his pedigree.  R1 had an adjusted BW of 89(107), WW of 778(111) and a YW of 1353(105). R1 was the first calf from an outstanding 2-year old daughter of DS Six Shooter 3H, his grand dam (L108) is an excellent cow with consistent records, and his great-grand dam (A4) was a phenomenal producer, weaning 13 calves before leaving the herd at the age of 14.  The actual ultrasonic values for R1 at 1240 lbs were REA=16.9, %IMF= 3.5, and Fat=0.17.  The carcass EPDs do not reflect these values because the contemporaries were not ultrasounded at the same time.  MMF BO R1 represents an unusual combination of growth and carcass superiority along with fantastic maternal records.  His first calves were born in the Spring 2007.

R1 is homozygous black, homozygous polled and has NOT sired a calf with spotting when bred to a group of spotted cows.

R1 sired 4 steers in a group of 65 finished at a Tri County feedlot in Western Iowa. Iowa State Extension calculates Retail Value/Day on Test and Retail Value/Day of Age for all steers finished in this group of feedlots. Among the 65 steers in the pen, the 4 R1 steers ranked 1, 2, 3 and 4 for Retail Value/Day of age. The other steers were sired by Angus, Red Angus and Gelbvieh bulls. It appears that R1 is clearly superior for growth and carcass value.

Red Coat was our pick of the bulls at the 2007 Gateway Bull Sale (MT).  Red Coat excels phenotypically being sound structured, thick, and balanced.  Red Coat posted impressive individual performance data, low birth weight (81 pounds), 112 WR, and 111 YR.  Red Coat's massive thickness was evidenced by his 16.02 REA (122 ratio).  In the Gateway Sale of 235 bulls, Red Coat had the 4th largest REA in the entire offering.

Owned with Gateway (MT) and JanBil Farms (GA).  SEMEN AVAILABLE
