1BWJ JULIAN 17P 1A 100% # 990784 (OSF) Tattoo: 1BWJ 17P Calved: 2/2/2004
17P is the most dominant sire we have used at Red Hill Farms. No bull compares in the ability to moderate frame, spread the data from birth to yearling, add thickness, and combine all of this with breed leading CEM (top 11%) and STAY (top 2%). Even more impressive than 17P's ability to sire outstanding performance is the consistency with which he sires moderate framed, thick, easy-fleshing cattle. 17P’s dam, Shady’s MS Marias 283, is one of the best cows in our herd. In addition to being a very fertile female, 283 is the largest volume, heaviest muscled, and one of the most structurally correct mature cows. A strong attribute of 283 is her ability to thrive on typical fescue pastures—it certainly appears she may have some genetic resistance to the fescue endophyte. 17P's first daughters calved in the Spring of 2008 with excellent udders. His daughters posted above average weaning weight ratios and were smaller cows than the average. Thus, further documenting his ability to produce more pounds from smaller cows. Many thanks to the Gerkins for their confidence in our program with the purchase of 17P. We continue to use 17P and his sons here at Red Hill Farms and are thankful to the Gerkins for allowing us to bring 17P back to use naturally in our herd. 17P has serviced our top cows for Spring and Fall 2010 calves. Owned with Gerkin Farms, Orleans, IN. SEMEN AVAILABLE Red Hill B571 Julian 84S 1A 100% # 1147702 (OSF) Tattoo: 1BWJ 84S Calved: 9/2/06
84S is an easy calving (5% CED, 10% BW), low maintenance (5% ME) bull that has a perfect disposition and is very slick haired. This bull is ideal for producing females suitable for the heat and humidity of the South. The data indicates his daughters will breed regularly, calve easily, and have longevity, as he ranks in the top 12% for HPG, 16% CEM, and 8% for STAY. His first sons sell March 20, 2010 in our annual sale, and they are outstanding! 84S will continue to be a high-use sire here at Red Hill Farms. We cannot make enough positive comments about this cow family. Click here to learn more! Owned with Buffalo Creek Red Angus, Wyoming. SEMEN AVAILABLE Red Hill 17P Julian 101S 1A 100% # 1147667 (OSF) Tattoo: 1BWJ 101S Calved: 9/16/06
PERFORMANCE, PERFORMANCE, and MORE PERFORMANCE! There is not a hole in this bull's record. Check out and compare his percentiles: 14% CED, 9% WW, 7% YW, 12% MILK, 5% TM, 1% STAY, and 1% REA. His first sons sell March 20, 2010 in our sale. 101S' dam (54P) and granddam (M554) are two of our top producing cows. Click here to learn more about these great cows! Owned with Mike Nolin, Gary Wall, and Weber Show Cattle in Iowa. SEMEN AVAILABLE Red Hill L081 Ripper 13R 1A 100% # 1054257 (OSC) Tattoo: 1BWJ 13R Calved: 2/5/2005
Ripper's dam, N011, continues to amaze us as she is our smallest cow, stays in great condition, breeds early, and weans heavy!!! N011 represents unique genetic material being the only Red Angus cow in the breed that is less than -6.0 on birth, greater than 35 YW, and less than -20 on ME. Likewise, Ripper is in the top 3% of the breed for ME. Ripper is a valuable breeding article in our program as he is an outcross to all our Cherokee and Lancer cattle. Ripper's daughters appear to possess his low maintenance and easy fleshing characteristics. The Spring 2009 sale featured 2 of the best 13R sons to date - 2U and 28U. They were our top selling bulls. 28U sold to Buffalo Creek Red Angus (WY), and 2U sold to Comerford Farms (GA). Two additional 13R sons are OSF and will sell on March 20, 2010. Owned with L.J. Watson, Liberty, KY. SEMEN AVAILABLE. Red Hill 13R Ripper 28U 1A 100% # 1233740 (OSF) Tattoo: 1BWJ 28U Calved: 1/29/2008
28U is one of the top bulls ever produced at Red Hill Farms. 28U's dam does what we preach. She has weaned two calves with a weaning weight ratio of 112 and has weighed 834 pounds and 844 pounds the last two falls. 28U's paternal granddam, N011, has never weighed over 900 at weaning and has always bred back. 28U ranks in the top 25% for CED, BW, Milk, ME, CEM, STAY and REA. We believe in smaller, more efficient cows and this bull is the real deal. 28U is stacked for generations of low maintenance, efficient cattle. Owned with Buffalo Creek Red Angus, Leiter, WY. SEMEN AVAILABLE Red Hill 13R Ripper 2U 1A 100% # 1233720 (OSF) Tattoo: 1BWJ 2U Calved: 12/27/2007
2U is a unique genetic package combining our herd sire, 13R (efficiency specialist), with NA543, a power cow in our herd. 2U is a moderate, powerful package that excels in soundness and body volume. Owned with Comerford Farms, LLC, Legrange, GA. Red Hill L081 Ranger 31R 1A 100% # 1054276 (OSC) Tattoo: 1BWJ 31R Calved: 2/17/2005
Ranger 31R was the top selling bull in the 2006 Red Hill Farms sale at $8,000. Ranger represents the total balance for phenotype and genotype we strive for here at Red Hill Farms. Structural soundness, massive body volume, and unparalleled performance while still in a moderate package. Ranger is in the National Carcass Evaluation and the data should be available in the Fall of 2009. Owned with Coyote Hills, Scottsville, KY. SEMEN AVAILABLE. Red Hill 17P Julian 126T 1A 100% # 1214338 (OSF) Tattoo: 1BWJ 126T Calved: 9/19/07
126T is a full brother to our 2008 Lot 1 bull, Red Hill 17P Julian 101S, and the second natural calf from our outstanding donor cow, 1 BWJ Barmaid 54P. 54P was flushed to B571 when 126T was a nursing baby, and we flushed 54P again in November, 2008. 126T is well balanced and structurally sound with excellent center body width. In addition 126T is a good-doing, easy fleshing bull that maintained condition well when breeding here at Red Hill Farms. His first claves were born here at Red Hill Farms in the Fall of 2009. Owned with Ronnie Holman, NC. Red Hill 17P Julian 66S 1A 100% # 1106420 (OSF) Tattoo: 1BWJ 66S Calved: 3/23/06
66S sold in our 2007 sale to L. J. Watson in Casey County, KY. This bull was one of our favorites during the summer of 2006 as we would observe him following and nursing his outstanding Beckton bred dam. 66S’s dam was one of our selections from the Beckton cow sale in the fall of 2005. The combination of 1BWJ Julian 17P and this outstanding Beckton cow puts together the best in adaptability and maternal performance from our program. 66S sires thick, heavily muscled, uniform calves and beautiful replacement females. 66S is sound structured, heavily muscled, and maintains excellent body condition while breeding cows on stockpiled fescue pasture. 66S was used at Red Hill Farms in the Spring 2008 breeding season. Owned in partnership with L. J. Watson from Liberty, KY.
1BWJ JULIAN 10P 1A 100% # 990783 Tattoo: 1BWJ 10P Calved: 1/29/2004
Julian 10P is the second Beckton Julian B571 son that we retained and used in the Spring of 2005. His impressive birth to yearling spread (-4.3 to + 75), the balance of his EPD’s, and his impressive phenotype made retaining 10P as a herd sire an easy decision. 10P ranks in the top 5% of the breed for CED, top 7% for BW, top 13% for WW, top 7% for CEM, and top 4% for Stayability—a set of genetic values difficult to match in the Red Angus or any other breed. Owned with Shady Bottom Red Angus, Crossville, TN. SEMEN AVAILABLE
BUFFALO
CREEK KEYSTONE 6033 1A 100% # 729254 (OSF) Tattoo: GSC 6033 Calved: 2/27/00
“Keystone was one
of our top bulls in 2000-01 at both weaning and yearling.
His sire, Cornerstone, was in our high gaining group of bulls in
1998-99. His dam, Pinemarie
5151, is a highly maternal and fertile Chiefly Gold daughter, and out of
Pinemarie 2596, now in ET. Like
his sire, Keystone is not at the top of any trait, but he covers them
all well.” (Excerpt from Buffalo Creek Fall 2004 Sale Catalog) As we pondered over our first breeding season, we called Jack Chase and told him we were interested in a bull to continue building the kind of cowherd Mr. Caldwell had established. We told Jack we were particularly interested in calving ease, fertility, udder quality, fleshing ability, and calm disposition in a moderate framed package. Jack recommended Keystone - a sound structured,, problem-free bull with an amazingly quiet disposition. We thank Jack and Gini for sending Keystone east sight unseen. Keystone's first calf crop, weaned in the fall of 2004, showed superior growth, balance, and uniformity. 6033's bulls were well accepted by our commercial customers. Our first Keystone daughters calved during the spring of 2006. We are pleased with Keystone daughters - they cycle early and breed early in the season. The Keystone daughters are very fertile and problem free with perfect dispositions. Keystone daughters are big volumed, easy fleshing, sound structured females that mature as moderate framed cows. Additionally, Keystone daughters consistently have ideal teat size and udder structure. Keystone ranks in the top 3% of the breed for Maintenance Energy requirement (ME). Owned with Buffalo Creek Red Angus, Leiter, Wyoming. SEMEN AVAILABLE.
BECKTON
LANCER M361 TD 1A 100% # 855234 Tattoo: WF M361 Calved: 3/19/02
M361 was our pick
in Beckton’s 2003 Spring Bull Sale.
M361 is sired by the breed’s leading carcass sire and out of a top cow
that Beckton flushed at a young age. M361’s dam, as an
8-year old cow maintained moderate size (1065 lbs.) with a ME EPD of -8,
while posting an impressive AVG BW of 74, WW Ratio of 111, and YW Ratio
of 108. M361 exhibited excellent carcass traits as he scanned 4.0% IMF (106 ratio) and a 14.9 REA (117 Ratio). M361 and his flush brothers were the only bulls in the 2003 Beckton Sale to have EPDs greater than 0.2 for both Marbling and REA. More impressive is his phenotype. M361 has unparalleled structural soundness, is an excellent breeder, and he is an extremely easy fleshing bull in a very moderate package. M361 is a great calving ease bull, ranking in the top 10% of the breed for CED. He portrays the results of the Beckton philosophy that selecting for low birth weight results in smaller mature size. M361 consistently moderates frame size while adding muscle, body volume, and fleshing ability. M361 ranks in the top 1% of the breed for Maintenance Energy requirement. His daughters have excellent udder quality and are some of our top cows. Owned with Darrell Doss, Lafayette, TN. SEMEN AVAILABLE.
BUF CRK NICE 'N EASY T189 1A 100% # 1190716 (OSF) Tattoo: BUF T189 Calved: 5/11/07
Buffalo Creek Nice ‘N Easy T189 was our pick of the bulls in the November, 2008 Buffalo Creek Sale. We purchased T189 with our cooperator herd, Coyote Hills. T189 is sired by BUF CRK Medallion N328, a bull whose progeny have adapted and performed exceptionally well in the Coyote Hills herd in Kentucky. T189’s dam is simply an outstanding young Beckton Julian GG B571 daughter with an exceptional production record. Her progeny averages are 3/70, 2/114 and 2/110 for a MPPA of 107.7. Prior to the Buffalo Creek Sale, we were able to find P154 in one of the huge pastures at Buffalo Creek thriving on dry grass, and in respectable body condition for a young cow that has been so fertile and productive. She also had small teats and an apparent problem free udder. T189’s maternal granddam, 9005, had averages of 105 WR, 106 YR and a MPPA of 104.5 on 10 natural calves before going into the Buffalo Creek Transplant program. T189 puts together an unusually strong combination of convenience and cow efficiency traits on both sides of his pedigree. T189 is also outstanding from a phenotypic standpoint. He is a very moderate framed, structurally correct bull with tremendous width of chest, spring of rib and body volume. Out in the pasture with a large group of cows here in KY, T189 exhibits excellent overall balance as he moves over the hills. We like the way that T189 has performed on fescue since coming to Kentucky, gaining a full body condition score while running with about 25 cows. Owned in partnership with Buffalo Creek Red Angus and Coyote Hills Farm.
